Quantum Chemistry 2.3 - Vibrating String Animation. Short lecture animating the solutions to the vibrating string.
The solutions to the classical wave equation for a vibrating one-dimensional string are a set of normal modes which form a basis set for any possible motion of the string. Any function which obeys the boundary conditions can be represented by the appropriate choice of magnitude and phase coefficients. Additional factors that affect the solution include the width of the string and the velocity of the wave.
